RandBand is a free, no-account-required web tool for generating random band names. We do not collect personal information or require sign-up. Your band name history and favorites are stored locally in your browser. Generated band names may be stored on our servers to power shareable band pages.
We use PostHog for anonymous product analytics. PostHog may collect:
• Anonymous usage events (e.g., “band generated”, “band copied”)
• General device and browser information (type, screen size, language)
• Approximate geographic region (country/city level, derived from IP address)
• Pages visited and time spent on the site
We do not collect names, email addresses, or any information that could identify you as an individual.
Your band name history, favorites, and wackiness preference are stored entirely in your browser’s local storage. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser data.
When you generate a band name, your IP address is temporarily stored in our database solely for rate-limiting purposes (to prevent abuse). IP addresses are retained for 90 days and are not used for any other purpose. Under GDPR, your IP address is considered personal data; you may request deletion by contacting us.
PostHog — Analytics platform. See posthog.com/privacy for their privacy policy.
Supabase — Database for storing shareable band pages. Band names you generate may be stored to enable permalink sharing.
Spotify — Used to check whether a generated band name already exists as an artist. No personal data is sent to Spotify.
Anthropic (Claude) — Used to generate satirical band profiles for shareable pages. Band names are sent to Anthropic’s API.
Vercel — Hosting and analytics platform. Vercel may collect performance and usage metrics. See vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy for details.
PostHog may set a cookie to distinguish unique visitors and maintain session continuity for analytics purposes. No other cookies are used.
Generated band names and their profiles are stored indefinitely to power shareable permalink pages. IP addresses used for rate limiting are retained for 90 days. Analytics data is retained per PostHog’s standard policy.
RandBand does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The site does not require any personal information to use.
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of RandBand after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
